Toronto, Ontario – Toyota will boost its North American production earlier than expected following the Japanese tsunami in March. Beginning in June 2011, overall North American production will reach approximately 70 per cent of its normal levels, up from approximately 30 per cent in May.
The company said that the boost is due to an improvement in parts availability from Japan, the result of countermeasure activities implemented by affected suppliers. Toyota will continue to evaluate each model’s production on a monthly basis and has a goal of returning to full normalized production by late this year.
In June, the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, Sequoia, Sienna and Venza will return to 100 per cent production. Lexus RX350 production will increase to 60 per cent, while RAV4 production will be 25 per cent of normal levels.
