Toyota Auto Body to increase Prius output
Fujimatsu, Japan – Toyota Auto Body, a Japanese manufacturing subsidiary of the automaker, is increasing its production of Prius hybrid vehicles to meet growing demand in Japan and abroad.
According to a report from the Green Car Congress, the facility will double its Prius assembly capacity to 120,000 cars per year, beginning in May. The factory began manufacturing the Prius in October 2004, and currently exports around 70 per cent of its output.
The Toyota Auto Body Plant is one of two facilities manufacturing the Prius, along with the Tsutsumi Plant, also in Japan. The company says a large backlog of U.S. orders has resulted due to high gasoline prices. The Auto Body Plant also assembles the Estima and Land Cruiser recreational vehicles.
