Munich, Germany – BMW and Toyota will share battery technologies and diesel engines under a new agreement.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) concerning a mid- to long-term collaboration on next-generation, environmentally-friendly technologies.

Under the MOU, the two companies have agreed on collaborative research on next-generation lithium-ion battery technologies, and have agreed to identify and discuss other possible collaborative projects.

In addition, BMW will supply Toyota Motor Europe with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines, starting in 2014. The engines will be used in certain Toyota-produced vehicles planned for sale in Europe.
