Toronto, Ontario – Toyota is adjusting its North American production due to parts availability affected by the earthquake in Japan.
Over the next few weeks, Toyota’s North American vehicle plants will operate on a reduced schedule, including suspending production on April 15, 18, 21, 22 and 25. Most of the company’s North American engine and component plants will follow the same schedule. Future production plans will be determined later.
The company said that it will continue to provide employment for its approximately 25,000 regular employees. Those not required to work may report for training and plant improvement activities, use vacation, or take unpaid time off.
On average, about 85 per cent of parts and materials for the twelve Toyota and Lexus models built in North America are sourced here. While production of some parts and materials continues in Japan, Toyota is working closely with affected suppliers to minimize the impact.
