Toyo introduces new light truck winter tire
Delta, B.C. – Toyo Tire has introduced the new ‘Open Country G-02’ winter tire, a light truck radial specially designed for the handling, braking and load carrying requirements of pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles, with improved traction to handle the worst of Canadian winters.
The new tire includes Toyo’s ‘Microbit’ tread compound with Lamella crystals to help “vacuum” away moisture, larger harder walnut shell fragments, and Silica to keep the tire flexible in cold temperatures. A unidirectional tread pattern along with high density wave sipes and saw-toothed edge blocks increase gripping effect for better all-round handling in snow and on slippery surfaces. The tread design has been optimized on LT sizes to ensure necessary stability and load carrying requirements are not compromised in these more severe applications.
A 10% wider contact patch over its predecessor (the GP-4) increases traction and braking on ice and compacted snow. Twin shoulder blocks (both square and round) ensure better handling and directional stability. Interlocking tread blocks increase stability during braking and cornering.
Finally, Toyo has been able to optimize the tread pattern for improved handling and ride comfort along with less tire noise.
The Open Country G-02 is available in 34 sizes ranging from 15″ to 17″ rim diameters, and has a five-year warranty.
