Toronto, Ontario – Honda Canada announced that they will display the Honda Pilot SUV prototype at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto next week – this will be the only time it will be shown in Canada prior to its introduction this Summer.

Based on the Odyssey minivan/MDX SUV platform, the Pilot SUV has a V6 engine, 5 speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel-drive, and eight passenger seating and will be built at Honda’s plant in Alliston, Ontario.

Honda will also show the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid which is scheduled to go on sale this Spring. The Civic Hybrid has a 1.3 litre i-DSI four cylinder gasoline engine with electric motor assist and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The new i-DSI engine features two spark plugs per cylinder and a cylinder-idling system that reduces internal friction by 50% allowing better use of regenerative braking. Average fuel economy is estimated at an astounding 3.6 litres per 100 km (78 mpg).

The Civic Hybrid’s IMA battery and power unit is 50% smaller and lighter than Honda Insight’s system. Honda says the Civic Hybrid will retain its 5 star NHTSA and “Good” IIHS crash safety ratings.

Also on display will be the new 2002 Honda Civic SiR, a British-built two-door Civic hatchback with a 160 horsepower 2.0 litre i-VTEC four cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission with console mounted shift lever, race-tuned suspension, electric variable ratio steering, and front sport seats. The Civic SiR will go on sale this Spring.

A couple of special edition 2002 models will also be on display. The 2002 Honda Odyssey with Rear Entertainment System features a 7″ LCD flip down screen, flexible independent or linked front and rear audio and video options, remote control, two infra-red wireless headphones, and video input jacks for video game consoles.

A special edition 2002 Honda Civic Coupe Si Veloz that commemorates the one millionth Civic sold in Canada will feature a front skirt, side skirts, rear skirt, rear spoiler, chrome exhaust finisher, carbon fibre audio panel, unique floor mats, and a unique rear badge. Honda says the extra equipment is worth $2,800 but is being offered for only $1,100 extra.
