Yonkers, New York – The Toyota Highlander and Chevrolet Avalanche have taken honours as new Consumer Reports’ Top Picks for midsize SUV and pickup truck, toppling the Hyundai Santa Fe and Chevrolet Silverado in the categories. The magazine has named all of its Top Picks for 2009.
Despite the arrival of more gasoline/electric hybrids, the Toyota Prius took the top “green” award for the sixth straight year, and returns the best fuel mileage measured in any five-passenger car.
Top Pick vehicles are the best all-around models in their categories, and must meet stringent road test, reliability and safety requirements. Each Top Pick scores at or near the top of its category among more than 300 vehicles tested at Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center, must have average or better predicted reliability based on reports from more than 1.4 million subscribers, and must perform adequately in overall safety if tested by the government or insurance industry, including having electronic stability control as standard or optional equipment.
