Thunderbird and Corvette honoured on U.S. postal stamps

Detroit, Michigan – A new series of stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service commemorate five sports cars of the 1950s, including the Ford Thunderbird and the Chevrolet Corvette. Unveiled at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the stamps received their “first day of issuance” on August 20th. The collection is called “America on the Move: 50’s Sporty Cars”.

The collection includes the 1955 Thunderbird and 1953 Chevrolet Corvette, the first years the cars were produced. The three other vehicles in the collection, from manufacturers no longer in business, are the 1954 Kaiser Darrin, 1952 Nash Healey and 1953 Studebaker Starlight Coupe. The stamps go on sale this week at U.S. post offices and at www.usps.com.
