Texas jury rules against Ford for Explorer rollover

Zavala County, Texas – A jury has found the Ford Motor Company liable for a rollover accident involving a Ford Explorer and has ordered the company to pay US$31 million in compensatory damages.

The verdict concerns a 2000 Explorer involved in a rollover collision in May 2003. Two of the four occupants in the vehicle were killed.

Ford said it will appeal the verdict. It is currently battling numerous lawsuits over the safety of its SUV, which was manufactured through the 2001 model year. In another case in San Diego County, California last year, a jury ordered Ford to pay US$369 million; the award was reduced to US$150 million.
