St. John’s, Newfoundland – Targa Newfoundland, Canada’s on-road tarmac rally, has announced a cooperative effort with Sol Rally Barbados, under which the winner of each location would take part in the other.

The agreement provides a free entry as a prize to the winner of each other’s event, and is part of a promotional drive by the two organizers to solidify a base of high-quality tarmac rally competitions in North America.

Sol Rally Barbados, the Caribbean’s largest international motorsport event, was completed May 31, with Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle of Northern Ireland winning the three-day event in a Subaru Impreza WRC S9. Unable to attend Targa Newfoundland due to a scheduling conflict, the pair donated their entry to the Barbados Rally Club, which will send a top finisher in their stead.

The winner of the eighth annual Targa Newfoundland this September will receive an invitation to next spring’s Sol Rally Barbados in return. The Newfoundland event runs from September 12 to 19, 2009.
