Subaru Canada has announced pricing for the new 2003 Forester. The base Forester 2.5 X, with added features and upgrades for 2003, will start at $27,995, $400 less than the 2002 Forester L base model it replaces. The uplevel Forester 2.5 XS model starts at $32,195. 2003 Foresters will arrive in Canadian dealerships this week.

The Forester 2.5 XS can also be outfitted with a Premium Package that includes a power moonroof, monotone body colour and an audio system upgrade for an MSRP of $33,895. A second package adds leather-trimmed upholstery for an MSRP of $35,495.

“The 2003 Forester is better looking and better equipped, with more safety features than previous models – and at a lower MSRP than 2002,” said Norio Osakabe, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Subaru Canada, Inc. “We expect that this aggressive strategy will make Forester even more attractive compared to the competition, particularly since Forester combines the best qualities of car and sport utility vehicles into one package that offers the best of both worlds.”

The 2003 Forester includes a stronger yet lighter body structure, new suspension tuning with a wider track, and larger 11.4 inch front brake rotors. On models equipped with the five-speed manual transmission, Subaru brings back its Hill Holder clutch to help make starting off on an incline easier and safer.

The exterior features a larger, more pronounced grille, contoured multi-reflector halogen headlights and a large, contoured bumper cover with integral multi-reflector fog lights. The front edges of the new aluminum hood have been sculpted to give the driver better sightlines, enhancing maneuverability.

The 2003 Forester adds numerous new standard features including styled 16-inch wheels, a remote keyless entry system, and variable intermittent windshield wipers. The front seats feature more supportive bolstering and an additional fore/aft adjustment step adds 13 mm (half an inch) of front legroom. Rear seat leg- and foot-room were significantly increased and a reshaped seat cushion helps to increase rear seat comfort.

Constructed using the unique Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure that made Forester the top performer in its category in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s front offset crash tests, 2003 Foresters remain class leaders in safety. Each is now equipped with front side-impact
airbags with head protection as part of the Supplemental Restraint System. Mounted in the upper sides of the front seatbacks, these side-impact airbags offer head and upper body protection regardless of seat position. Also new for 2003, Forester models have active front seat head restraints that help reduce the chance of whiplash injury in a collision.

The 2003 Forester offers a 5-year/100,000 km warranty covering major components and power train, as well as a 3-year/60,000 km “bumper-to-bumper,” no deductible warranty. Subaru also provides a Rust Perforation Warranty, an Emission Control Warranty and North American roadside emergency service, offered in conjunction with the CAA and AAA, that is free of charge for the first three years of ownership.
