Orangeville, Ontario – High-school students from across Ontario are expected to compete in the third annual Orangeville Electric Car Grand Prix (OECGP), a race for single-seat electric cars designed, built and raced by students, on May 31, 2008.

The race will be held at the Orangeville District Secondary School at 22 Faulkner St. in Orangeville, Ontario; it is held by the school’s Technology Department and is presented by title sponsor Meridian Credit Union.

The students will compete in 12- and/or 24-volt classes; each race will be one hour long, and take place on a temporary road race circuit that measures approximately 3/8 of a kilometre. The cars can reach speeds of 60 km/h; students compete for cash and trophy awards, including engineering, presentation, preparation and finishing position.

The event is free for spectators, and will run rain or shine; in the event of severe weather, it will be held on June 1st. For more information, visit
