Gaydon, Warwickshire, England – A student-led expedition from Durham University in England is travelling to Iceland for a month-long research trip through Land Rover’s annual “Go Beyond” bursary.

The students have received a Land Rover Defender 110 and £10,000 for the trip, named “Glacier in a Greenhouse.” The bursary is awarded by the Royal Geographical Society. The team will venture into central west Iceland and study a remote ice plateau, setting up a base camp and driving daily from it to the glacier Klofajöll, which was last researched some 15 years ago due to its inaccessible nature.

On their return, the team members will develop materials to present in schools in the hope of inspiring future glaciologists, and will work with past bursary winners to produce recommendations on the challenges and solutions to working in extreme environments.
