Monterey, California – A 1970 Porsche 911S once owned by Steve McQueen and featured in his movie Le Mans brought US$1,375,000 at auction.

The car was sold by RM Auctions and set a new world record for a 911 sold at auction.

The slate-grey car, which came with a full complement of factory options, appeared in the film’s opening sequence as McQueen, playing character Michael Delaney, drove through the French countryside. McQueen also used the car for his personal transportation during the movie’s production and it was later added to his collection.

The car marks the 200th vehicle that RM has sold for more than $1 million.

The auction also included a Columbia Electric Landaulet, circa 1899, which sold for $550,000, more than double its presale estimate and a record price for an electric car sold at auction.
