Sony announces new Bluetooth-based car stereo head unit

Toronto, Ontario – Sony of Canada Ltd. has introduced its new MEX-BT5000 car stereo, the company’s first audio-streaming AM/FM/CD receiver with wireless Bluetooth technology. The company says the device will help drivers enjoy hands-free conversations and clear streaming music in their vehicles.

The system automatically connects with cellular phones and other devices, including portable music players that have Bluetooth connectivity. The MEX-BT5000 transfers up to 50 phonebook contacts and six speed-dial entries from a phone to the stereo; the contact information appears on the receiver’s high-resolution screen. An integrated microphone on the faceplate detects voices and eliminates the need for additional wiring.

The MEX-BT5000 stereo will be available in August, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $499.99.
