Well, this is definitely an interesting one.

GM is performing a service bulletin on almost 800,000 2010 through 2012 vehicles to change the oil change interval of the on-board computer. This is due to certain components experiencing premature wear and a high number of warranty claims.

Of particular interest, a chain linking the crank and balance shafts seems to be experiencing unexpected wear during current oil change intervals, causing noisy engines.

This service bulletin affects 2010-2012 Chevrolet Equinox/GMC Terrain, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal models with 2.4L LAF and LEA four-cylinder engines. Owners will be notified of the no-cost-to-you solution.

While this is a US bulletin, Canadian owners should probably inquire with their dealer to see if the service fix is available to them as well.
