Smart sales up 24 per cent worldwide
Stuttgart, Germany – Smart reports that in the first five months of the year, worldwide sales of the subcompact Smart continued to grow, increasing by 24 per cent to 60,500 units. A total of 12,800 vehicles were delivered to customers in May. The brand suffered from a major contraction of the small-car segment in Germany, but demand in Canada, Western Europe and Asia continued to rise.
While gasoline-powered Smart vehicles are available overseas, diesel sales are continuing to rise; nearly one out of four Smart Fortwo models delivered in May came equipped with a diesel engine. Nearly 120,000 diesel units have been sold since market launch.
