Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna get TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards; Chrysler, Dodge, and Nissan minivans score poorly
Those of you looking for the safest possible minivan may want to go to your local Honda dealer as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has ranked the Odyssey the top pick after performing its new small overlap crash test.
According to IIHS, only the Odyssey scored ‘Good’, the best rating available, after the testing body updated their procedures for 2014. The Toyota Sienna also gets a TOP SAFETY PICK+ award (like the Odyssey) but scores ‘Acceptable’ in the Overall category and ‘Marginal’ in the Structure category. Both models receive ‘Good’ ratings for dummy injury measurements.
On the lower end of the ratings, the Nissan Quest is rated ‘Poor’ overall thanks to ‘Poor’ scores in Structure and half of the dummy measurement categories. The Chrysler and Dodge minivan twins scored even worse with a ‘Marginal’ in the Restraint & Kinematics category.
Chrysler will be replacing their minivan offerings in 2016. The Nissan Quest is no longer available for sale in Canada.
