Consumer Reports responds to lackluster IIHS crash test rating for Fit

As we reported yesterday, minicars in the latest round of IIHS testing didn’t fair well at all in the small overlap component of testing. While the Chevrolet Spark managed an “Acceptable” rating from the organization, the Honda Fit came up dead last.

Enter Consumer Reports, who have stripped the current generation Honda Fit (a new one is one the way) of its vaulted “Recommended” rating due to its poor crash test performance.

Honda, has planned for this new test and engineered the new Fit accordingly. The Japanese automaker expects their newest subcompact to get top marks when it’s tested.

The small overlap test has been difficult for all vehicles to pass, especially minicars, as the level of force is exerted on a much smaller area of the car’s frontal structure.
