Saint John, New Brunswick – Commuters in Saint John will now know when transit buses are arriving, thanks to a new global positioning system (GPS) launched yesterday.

The tracking technology, known as NextBus, has been added to Saint John Transit’s fleet. The system lets passengers know when the next bus will arrive at any given stop through the Web, mobile devices, and signs at key locations, reducing wait times and the need for printed schedules.

NextBus has been added to the entire fleet of 60 buses. The $280,000 project is entirely funded through allocations to the province by the federal Public Transit Capital Trust 2008.
