Safety advocacy group urges “birth date” on tires

Washington, D.C. – Safety Research & Strategies Inc., a safety advocacy group, has asked the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to require easy-to-read “born-on” dates on tires, coupled with a government-issued consumer alert to make consumers aware of the dates. The group doesn’t want tires sold if they have been stored by more than six years.

The NHTSA is conducting its own research and is expected to make an announcement in June.
