Saab earns second Top Safety Pick Gold Award with 9-2X announcement

Detroit, Michigan – With the 9-2X compact receiving the Top Safety Pick Gold Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Saab becomes the first luxury carmaker to receive two such awards. The 9-3 Sport Sedan was earlier given the top designation, which recognizes car designs that provide the best occupant protection in front, side and rear crashes based on IIHS testing.

To earn the rating, a vehicle must pass crash tests which include a frontal impact at 64 km/h against a deformable fixed barrier, a side impact of 50 km/h from a deformable barrier constructed to resemble a full-size SUV, and a rear-end test which simulates a 32 km/h impact into a stationary car, during which time the front seat and head restraint performance is assessed.
