Russia purchases GEM vehicles for G8 summit
Fargo, North Dakota – The Russian government, at the behest of President Vladimir Putin, has purchased 30 four-passenger GEM electric vehicles for use during the upcoming G8 Summit in July. The vehicles are built in the U.S. by Global Electric Motorcars, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler.
GEM gained publicity when it provided 38 vehicles for the 2004 G8 Summit in Georgia; the vehicles were provided for the leaders of the participating governments’ transportation needs, and were decorated with their nation’s flag.
