Rolls-Royce sets record price

Naples, Florida – The Naples Winter Wine Festival has raised more money than any other charity wine event in the world in the last five years; at its February 5th auction it outdid itself when a 2005 Rolls-Royce Phantom sold for US$800,000. That’s more than twice the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, and tops the US$550,000 paid for one at a Southampton charity auction last summer.

The wine-themed Rolls, customized by the factory, had a burgundy paint scheme, cashmere headliner, and “Cluster of Grapes” motif including a sterling silver inlay on the door caps. It is also the only Rolls built with a “mini wine cellar” in the trunk floor, cigar humidor in the glove compartment, and “Naples Winter Wine Festival” engraved into the tread plates. It carried an MSRP of US$374,534.

A sell-out crowd of more than 500 people raised more than US$11 million, up from US$7 million last year; auction lots also included rare wines, luxury travel packages and food experiences. Proceeds from the auction are given to children’s charities in the Collier County area.
