Auburn Hills, Michigan – A robotic Volkswagen Touareg nicknamed “Stanley”, winner of the US$2 million top prize at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge last October, will be featured on an episode of the television show Nova. The show will air tonight, March 28, on PBS stations at 8 p.m. EST.

Stanley defeated 22 other unmanned vehicles in a championship race over desert roads, mountain trails, dry lakebeds and tunnels, using only onboard sensors and navigation equipment. The show, “The Great Robot Race”, will provide an in-depth look at the DARPA Grand Challenge and the technological innovations of the race contenders. From a field of 200 contenders from around the world, a series of semi-final competitions narrowed the final field to 23, including Stanley.
