Red Bull announces new soapbox race

Santa Monica, California – Outrageous soapbox cars shaped like planes, pirate ships, peanuts and sharks are expected to compete in the Red Bull Soap Box Race in St. Louis, Missouri on October 28. The competitors were selected from over 500 applications from 40 states.

Unlike most soapbox derbies, the Red Bull Soap Box is a national race for amateur drivers, and depends on creativity and competitive fun as well as speed. The soapbox cars must be entirely human-powered and meet size and weight restraints, and will race on a closed track, two at a time, against the clock. Teams will be judged on speed, creativity and showmanship; the winning team receives a VIP trip to see Red Bull’s inaugural NASCAR Nextel Cup racing team in competition next year.
