Rally legend John Buffum will capture Targa Newfoundland for television

St. John’s, Newfoundland – John Buffum, 11-time U.S. national rally champion, will face his competitors in the 2005 Targa Newfoundland while simultaneously filming the event for television.

Buffum, of Burlington, Vermont, will pilot a 2006 Subaru WRX STi in the Modern Division of the fourth annual tarmac rally. The entry is a collaboration of Subaru Canada Inc. and television producers TV2GO Inc. of Toronto, and will carry cameras to record the action on the 2,100 km, six-day rally, which includes historic, classic and modern sporting cars. Buffum’s co-driver will be motorsports videographer Claude Gariepy.

Buffum officially retired as an active rally competitor several years ago, but is still busy as a car builder, team manager and event organizer, and occasionally participates in exotic events, including this year’s Rallye Monte Carlo.

The car is one of two entries from Subaru; the other, another WRX STi, will be driven by two-time Targa entrants and previous Modern Division winners John Paynter and Clarke Paynter, two brothers from Halifax.
