Queen’s University student wins Mitsubishi “Next Top Ad Exec” contest

Hamilton, Ontario – Monica Walker, a 22-year-old business student from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, has been named the winner of Mitsubishi’s “Next Top Ad Exec” contest. Walker, a fourth-year commerce student whose presentation was chosen from ten finalists from across the country, will receive a new Mitsubishi Eclipse or Lancer as her prize.

The contest, organized by students at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, required university students to come up with an experimental marketing campaign for the all-new 2008 Lancer. Sixteen judges from industry, corporations and academic institutions across Canada reviewed the submissions, grading them on how well the campaign met the objectives, along with creativity, execution and persuasive selling elements. Walker’s campaign targeted Mitsubishi’s key audience of 18- to 35-year-olds and was a “compelling presentation”, according to the judges.

“We were so impressed with Walker’s ideas that we hope to incorporate some of them in our 2008 Lancer marketing campaign,” says Jennifer Hutcheson, National Marketing Manager, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “In addition, this competition was an excellent opportunity for us to partner with McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business and work directly with our key target audience.”
