Montreal, Quebec – Martin Gros, a second-year student at Cégep de Matane in Matane, Quebec has been named the winner of the 2007 Bridgestone Photo Contest. The sixth annual contest drew a record 353 photographs from students enrolled in commercial photography studies at twelve pre-selected Canadian post-secondary schools.

The contest required that entrants photograph a Bridgestone-branded tire in an artistic context that complements their photography skills. A total of $39,000 will be divided between the two national winners and the top three photographers in each of the twelve competing schools. The Canadian Association for Photographic Art also donated a one-year membership to students winning the first place at each educational institution.

The three-member jury chose Gros’ photograph of a person jumping for joy with a Bridgestone tire around the waist, reminiscent of a hula hoop.

Natalia Shaidenko, a Moscow native in her final year at Dawson College in Montreal, was awarded Honourable Mention for her photograph of a field of black-eyed susans, with a Bridgestone tire serving as the black disc in the centre of the flower. Shaidenko earned second prize in the individual-school part of the 2006 competition.
