Atlanta, Georgia – Porsche debuted its top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo S at Auto Show 2008 in Beijing, and has shown the prototype Cayenne Hybrid for the first time in Asia. The company said the debuts underscore its confidence for expansion in China, which is its biggest growth market. The Cayenne Turbo S will begin North American sales in August.
“China is playing an increasingly significant role and has now become one of Porsche’s most important growth drivers worldwide,” said Klaus Berning, Board Member with responsibility for Sales and Marketing. From sales of about 250 vehicles in 2003/04, Porsche deliveries grew to 3,105 vehicles in 2006/07, double from the previous year, and the company predicts a growth percentage in “high double figures” for the coming year. Eighty per cent of Porsche’s total volume last year was the Cayenne, with 2,510 sold.
With the rapid growth in sales, Porsche correspondingly plans to expand its dealerships in the country from the current 19 to 30 by the end of the year. The company opened its first Porsche Center in Beijing in 2001.
