Atlanta, Georgia – Porsche has released initial details of its next-generation all-wheel-drive 911 model, the 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4. The new version offers significantly more engine, braking and handling performance than its predecessor and for the first time will be available with two engine options. It also features wider bodywork to accommodate larger rear tires, and an enhanced stability management system to provide shorter stopping distances and optimal braking.
Engine choices will be a 3.6-litre flat six-cylinder engine, making 325 hp, and a 3.8-litre that develops 355 hp. The larger engine will propel the car from zero to 96 km/h in 4.6 seconds, to a top test track speed of 288 km/h.
The Carrera 4’s all-wheel-drive system uses a multi-disc viscous coupling that transfers between five and 40 per cent of torque permanently to the front wheels.
The Carrera 4 will be introduced to Canada in the fall of 2005 at a price of $112,800 for the 4 Coupe and $127,500 for the 4S coupe.
