Stuttgart, Germany – Porsche has laid the foundation stone for the second extension of its factory in Leipzig, which will build the upcoming Cajun compact SUV.

The expansion represents an investment of €500 million and will create more than 1,000 new jobs, the company said. The existing plant is one of the world’s most environmentally-efficient car factories and has been producing the Cayenne since it opened in 2002. Following a first extension, it also began production of the Gran Turismo Panamera.

Production of the Cajun is scheduled to start as early as the end of 2013.
