Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey – Opera singer and conductor Placido Domingo has been named the latest celebrity to be given a BMW Hydrogen 7 for use in everyday driving. Domingo joins several other entertainment, government and environmental figures as part of the BMW Hydrogen 7 Pioneer Program, designed to help build widespread support of hydrogen as a viable alternative to fossil fuels.
“It is an honour to be taking part in this initiative by BMW to educate, inform and, ultimately, to impact how we as a society think about alternative energy and the health of our planet,” Domingo says. “Having worked on numerous natural disaster relief efforts, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that environmental and climate changes can have on humanity. I feel it is the duty of everyone on this planet to learn, become involved in the fight, accept change and be part of the solution.”
Running in hydrogen mode, the Hydrogen 7 essentially emits nothing but water vapour. While it is not for sale, it is considered to be a milestone in promoting hydrogen as a sustainable fuel for individual transportation.
