‘Pirates’ enter Volvo Ocean Race

Portsmouth, England – The Volvo Ocean Race expects the glare of a Hollywood spotlight with the announcement of a Pirates of the Caribbean II entry in the 2005-2006 around-the-world yacht race.

As part of its support for the race, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. will be releasing special Volvo Ocean Race editions of the XC90, XC70 and V70 models. Available for sale later this year, they will sport a unique blue paint scheme and special options packages.

Volvo and the Walt Disney Company have entered into a film marketing deal that includes the creation of a competitive entry. The Volvo Ocean Race is an around-the-world, 31,250 nm adventure race featuring nine offshore legs, and is held once every four years. Audiences are expected to grow for the upcoming event with the inauguration of special inshore races at each of the main stopover ports.

The event will launch with an inshore race in Sanxenxo, Galicia, on November 5, 2005, while the first offshore leg will begin at Vigo, Galicia on November 12 and travel to Cape Town, South Africa. The finish is expected in mid-June 2006 at G
