Per-capita car ownership to climb to 67 per cent in China by 2010

Beijing, China – The per-capita car ownership ratio in China will increase to 40 cars for every 1,000 citizens in 2010, up 67 per cent from the current 24, according to a report by Chinanews. The U.S. has an average of 765 vehicles per 1,000, while Europe is at 300 per 1,000.

China’s projected total is 55 million vehicles by 2010, with an annual production rate of nine million units per year. It is already the third-largest car-consuming country in the world.
