Orillia, Ontario – The Golden Helmets precision motorcycle team from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made its 2007 season debut yesterday at Deeley Harley-Davidson in Concord, Ontario. The team also presented its new black-and-white motorcycle colour scheme.

“The change is part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Program strategy that includes the rebranding of all patrol vehicles, boats and snowmobiles,” says John Carson, Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Safety. “The black and white paint scheme is more visible and will increase the safety of our officers and the public.”

The 20-member team, formed in 1963, is comprised of OPP officers on regular patrol duties. The team will put on 22 shows at fairs, festivals and parades across the province this summer, displaying a series of complex patterns that demonstrate the riders’ skills. The team is now using new 2007 Harley-Davidson Police Specials.

Each year, the Golden Helmets make financial donations to children’s charities; at yesterday’s event, the team made a donation to help fight cystic fibrosis.
