Ontario’s paramedics remind drivers to pull over for emergency vehicles
Toronto, Ontario – The Ontario Paramedic Association (OPA) is working with the Paramedic Association of Canada to deliver a series of radio advertisements asking drivers to safely pull out of the way and allow paramedic units to proceed on emergency calls, as part of EMS Week.
“When a paramedic unit is involved in a motor vehicle accident, there will be a delay in response for someone who needs timely emergency care,” says Robert Burgess, OPA President. He notes that paramedics respond to over one million requests for service each year in Ontario. Statistics released by the Centre for Disease Control found that the fatality rate among paramedics involved in vehicle crashes is twice the national average.
