Ontario’s GO Transit to expand parking lots

Toronto, Ontario – The Ontario government is adding 700 parking spaces at GO Transit stations in Bradford, Markham and Aurora to make room for more commuters using the train. The spaces are expected to be completed by December 2006, with another 300 to 400 spaces added by Spring 2007 at Unionville Station. The government is investing close to $5.5 million to complete the projects.

GO Transit currently carries 47 million riders each year, and the number is expected to double within 20 to 30 years. Other government projects include an $838 million investment to expand and modernize public transit in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including $670 million in a new subway to Highway 7 in York Region; a dedicated bus line along Highway 403 and Eglinton Avenue in Mississauga; and legislation to create a Greater Toronto Transportation Authority to take a regional approach to creating seamless and integrated transit in the GTA and Hamilton.
