Cornwall, Ontario – A new North Channel Bridge will be built at the Seaway International Bridge in Cornwall, Ontario, which links to Massena, New York. The crossing handles over 2.3 million passenger and 120,000 commercial transits each year.
The project involves constructing a new bridge connecting the city of Cornwall and Cornwall Island, as well as demolishing the current high-level structure and ramps that connect to the existing roadway. While the current bridge remains safe, the new bridge will ensure the long-term viability of the border crossing.
The project will cost approximately $75 million, financed entirely by the federal government. It is expected to open to the public by spring 2016.
