Mississauga, Ontario – A classic car cruise in the Toronto area on October 3, 2010 is intended to raise money for a planned Battle Cross Memorial to be placed alongside a stretch of Highway 401 known as the “Highway of Heroes.”
The memorial, also known as a Soldiers’ Cross with its rifle, helmet and dog tags, is tentatively planned for the Highway Travel Plaza located on Highway 401 east of Highway 115.
The car cruise begins at 11:00 a.m. on October 3 from the west end of Applewood Plaza in Mississauga, on the North Service Road between Dixie and Cawthra Road. Staging begins at 10:00 a.m. in the southwest end of the parking lot, with cars departing in several series of ten cars. Drivers are asked to bring a yellow ribbon to display on the vehicle, while magnetic ribbon decals will be available at the site for $4.00. An entry fee of $10.00 is requested to help fund the memorial effort through the Royal Canadian Legion Branch, 82 Port Credit.
An automotive flea market sponsored by the Roadmates Car Club will also be held at the plaza at 10:00 a.m., while those on the car cruise are welcome to visit the Port Credit Canadian Legion following the event.
