Toronto, Ontario – The Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario is warning about an auto insurance scam that has already trapped several consumers.
Newspaper ads have been placed in several Ontario city newspapers, most recently in the Toronto area, advertising auto insurance with a number to call. The perpetrators of the scheme seem to place the ads for about a week and then move to another city and newspaper, using a different telephone number and new business name.
Names used so far have included Ashley Brokers, Arthur and Son, Interprovince, Smith and Son, Addison, and Rawlings and Powell Insurance, given with an address of 66 Mountjoy St. South in Timmins. When customers call the numbers, they are directed to send money by Western Union for the auto insurance coverage.
Anyone who may have been caught by the scam are asked to call the Registered Insurance Brokers at 416-365-1900 or 1-800-265-3097.
