Nova Scotia Michelin plant produces first X One tire
Waterville, Nova Scotia – Michelin North America’s facility in Waterville, Nova Scotia has produced its first X One wide single tire ahead of schedule, a little more than a year after the company invested $92 million to install production.
The tires replace dual wheels on a tractor-trailer, turning an 18-wheeler into a 10-wheeler, which reduces fuel consumption due to the reduction in weight and rolling resistance.
The expansion project at Waterville was made possible with support from the Nova Scotia government and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and included the addition of a new building and equipment, an R&D component and the employment of more technical and manufacturing employees. The project will expand Michelin’s X One capacity by more than 50 per cent, and will make Waterville the second-largest truck tire manufacturing plant in the company’s global network.
