Arlington, Virginia – The Nissan Leaf has become the first all-electric vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick designation from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The top spot is given to vehicles that earn the highest rating of “good” in IIHS testing for front, rear and side impact protection, roof strength, and which have electronic stability control. The Leaf joins in the Nissan Cube and Infiniti M37/M56 on the list of 2011 Top Safety Picks.

The Leaf is the first 100 per cent electric vehicle to be tested by the IIHS.
