Canton, Mississippi – Nissan North America is expanding its plant in Canton, Mississippi in preparation for commercial vehicles that it will launch in North America in 2010.

“The expansion at our Canton plant represents a major step on the way to Nissan’s entering the commercial vehicle market in North America,” said Dan Bednarzyk, vice-president of manufacturing. “We realize this initiative means growth for Nissan in North America, and we are proud these important products for the future of our company will be built here in Mississippi.”

Beginning next year, the plant will build commercial vehicles developed specifically for the domestic market. The investment will come to US$118 million, including expansion and modification of the body shop and paint shop, and a new assembly line in the existing trim and chassis shop. Production is scheduled to begin in 2010 for the 2011 model year.
