Nissan begins production of fourth-generation Altima in Tennessee plant

Smyrna, Tennessee – The first production 2007 Nissan Altima rolled off the company’s Tennessee production line yesterday; it is the fourth generation of the company’s popular midsize sedan.
The new Altima is built on an all-new Nissan “D” platform, with improved body rigidity and redesigned suspension. It also offers Nissan’s Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) and choice of inline four or V6 engines.
Nissan North America sold 255,371 Altimas in calendar year 2005; vehicles produced in Smyrna are exported to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Gulf Coast Countries. The Tennessee plant has produced 2,448,367 units since the launch of its first Altima on June 11, 1992; the Altima is also produced in Canton, Mississippi.
