Nissan announces US$1.5 million gift to SAE Foundation
Detroit, Michigan – Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn has announced a US$1.5 million gift to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Foundation’s “Inspiring a New Generation” campaign. The Foundation supports science and technology education through programs, competitions, scholarships and awards, and industry volunteers who mentor students.
Ghosn, who received the SAE’s 2007 Manufacturing Leadership Award, made the announcement at the SAE Foundation annual banquet in Detroit.
“Nissan is pleased to partner with the SAE Foundation to sponsor A World in Motion,” Ghosn says. “By introducing children to science and math in their early school years, we hope to nurture a passion that will stay with them forever. This investment in education is an investment in the future, since we’re helping to prepare young people to succeed in a truly competitive global environment.”
While Nissan has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation, this gift is the company’s largest. The funds will be earmarked to develop a curriculum focusing on elementary school children in kindergarten through grade three.
The Foundation’s “Inspiring a New Generation” has a goal of US$25 million, with US$20.5 million raised to date; other top-level supporters include DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Caterpillar and Toyota.
