NHTSA to introduce dynamic rollover test next week
Washington, D.C. – On October 7 in East Liberty, Ohio, U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator Jeffrey W. Runge, M.D. will announce the National Highway Traffic Safety Association’s new dynamic rollover test program for passenger vehicles.
The announcement will include a demonstration of the dynamic rollover testing procedure to be used in rating vehicles on their likelihood of rollover. A static stability factor rating procedure is already in use by NHTSA and the new dynamic test will provide additional information to consumers. It was mandated by the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability, and Documentation (TREAD) Act of 2000.
Vehicle ratings based on a combination of the two procedures for rating rollover risk will be released by NHTSA beginning with Model Year 2004 vehicles.
