An all-wheel drive Mazdaspeed version of the popular 6 sedan might be a thing of the past, but an AWD Mazdaspeed3 could fill the gap
According to Drive.com.au, be prepared to see an all-wheel drive version of the next hotified Mazda 3, and you can thank the CX-5 for its possibility.
Rumours have been swirling about regarding the next Mazdaspeed-prepped 3 since the introduction of the 2014 earlier this year, including the idea it could lack turbocharging. However, that no longer seems to be the case, with the Mazdaspeed3 set to get forced-induction and all-wheel drive.
In the past, the only Mazdaspeed vehicle to get power delivered to all four corners was the Mazdaspeed6. Yet, a hot version of the beautiful sedan doesn’t seem to be in the cards. And with the Mazda 3 sharing the same architecture as the CX-5, a proper all-wheel drive variant is possible.
“From a technical point of view it’s not difficult to install a four-wheel-drive system,” said Mazda3 deputy program manager Takeo Mariuchi to Drive.
