New York owner puts one million miles on his Saab
Lake George, New York – General Motors has announced that Saab enthusiast and Wisconsin resident Peter Gilbert has reached one million miles (1,609,344 km) on his 1989 Saab 900 SPG. The milestone took place and was celebrated at the 2006 Saab Owners Convention, held recently in Lake George, New York. Gilbert was congratulated by Saab USA General Manager Jay Spenchian.
Gilbert bought his first Saab in 1967; he credits his current car’s longevity to “maintenance and rigorous fluid replacement”. The 1989 SPG has hit 135 mph (217 km/h) on a racecourse, collided with at least eight deer, and has used the equivalent of two tanker trucks of fuel in 17 years. Gilbert plans to retire the car to the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin.
