London, England – Volkswagen’s new Golf was presented with What Car? magazine’s Car of the Year 2004 award yesterday. The Golf goes on sale in England, January 30th.
“There’s no denying that a fourth Car of the Year title in the 30-year history of the Golf is a simply staggering achievement. In lifting the crown in 2004, the Golf proves emphatically that Volkswagen knows what people want and deliver it,” said Rob Aherne, editor of What Car? magazine.
“The best thing about the Golf is its big car feel. It’s so refined and roomy, that you could easily mistake it for a much more expensive car,” said Aherne.
Volkswagen also won What Car’s award for Best Convertible award for the New Beetle convertible, and the Best Compact MPV award for the Touran.
Paul Willis, director of Volkswagen UK, said: “We are delighted that three of our latest models have done so well in these important awards, especially the Golf. Claiming the What Car? Car of the Year trophy just as the car goes on sale is a fantastic accolade.”
